During the 12th century CE, the Palnadu region was ruled by the Haihaya Dynasty, a powerful local dynasty that governed a large portion of present-day western Andhra Pradesh. Their rule marked one of the most significant periods in Palnadu’s history, laying the foundation for the region’s political, economic, and cultural development.

Political Importance

The Haihaya rulers established their authority over Palnadu through a network of fortified towns and administrative centers. Three towns became particularly important:

Gurazala

Gurazala served as one of the principal seats of power. It functioned as an administrative center where royal decisions were made, taxes were collected, and local governance was coordinated. The town gained prominence during the political conflicts that later led to the Palnadu War.

Macherla

Macherla was another major center of the kingdom and became associated with Malideva Raja’s faction during the Palnadu conflict. Due to its strategic location near the Nallamala region, it played an important role in defense, trade, and agricultural activities.

Karempudi

Karempudi is historically famous as the battlefield where the legendary Palnadu War was fought. Even before the war, it was an important settlement connecting different parts of the kingdom.
